Mainland higher education expo set

The Mainland Higher Education Expo 2024-25 will be held at the Convention & Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai from December 2 to 3.   Jointly organised by the Ministry of Education and the Education Bureau, the expo will provide students aspiring to pursue further studies on the Mainland with information on the arrangements of the Scheme for Admission of Hong Kong Students to Mainland Higher Education Institutions for the 2024-25 academic year.   The 138 Mainland higher education institutions participating in the admission scheme admit Hong Kong students based on their Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination results, thereby exempting them from taking the Joint Entrance Examination for Mainland Institutions.    Among the participating institutions, 129 of them will set up exhibition booths to provide information on aspects such as faculties and subjects, admission criteria and the number of student places.   Ministry of Education representatives will also b

New online application platform starts

Police today announced the launch of a one-stop online platform for members of the public to conveniently submit permit applications and make payments online.   The Hong Kong Police Force Online Applications Platform provides application services for Closed Area Permits, Road Event Permits and Location Filming in its first phase.   Applications for Electronic Tourism Closed Area Permit will be open starting December 1 to tie in with the second phase of the Sha Tau Kok opening-up plan that will be implemented in January 2024.   Police explained that through the new platform, people can apply for online services by logging in with just one account, saving time spent on queuing and filling out handwritten forms.   They also pointed out that the platform supports multiple registration and login methods, including email, local mobile phone numbers, iAM Smart and iAM Smart+.   Based on the applicants' registration particulars, the platform automatically fills out most

EPD takes action on concrete plants

The Environmental Protection Department said it does not tolerate concrete batching plants operating without a licence and will make every effort to stop any illegal operations.   The department made the statement in response to media reports yesterday of a concrete batching plant at 20 Tung Yuen Street in Yau Tong continuing to operate without holding a valid Specified Process Licence (SPL).   The department has been closely monitoring the operation of two plants, both owned by China Concrete. The other plant is at 22 Tung Yuen Street in Yau Tong.   Regarding the plant at 20 Tung Yuen Street, the Air Pollution Control Appeal Board dismissed an appeal lodged by China Concrete against the department’s refusal of its application for renewal of an SPL for the plant on November 22.   Under the Air Pollution Control (Specified Processes) Regulations, the plant’s SPL ceased to be valid with immediate effect and the department issued a letter requesting that all works be halte

Secretary for the Civil Service Ingrid Yeung met a delegation led by Singapore's Head of Civil Service Leo Yip, under the Singapore-Hong Kong Permanent Secretaries Exchange Programme at the Central Government Offices today.   Welcoming the delegation's visit to Hong Kong, Mrs Yeung said the civil service of both places have always maintained close ties and exchanges, adding that while reciprocal visits among senior civil servants of the two governments could not be materialised under the COVID-19 epidemic, she was encouraged to see the exchange programme resume today.   Mrs Yeung shared with the delegation experiences in the recruitment and training of civil servants. Alert issued over fake HKeToll sites

The Transport Department today alerted the public to fraudulent websites purporting to offer HKeToll services and deceive users into submitting their credit card information to make payments.   Minus the spaces added here, the addresses of the websites are “gov . hktc . etollu . xyz” and “etollu . xyz”.   The department clarified that these websites have no connection with HKeToll and have been reported to Police for follow-up.   If vehicle owners wish to pay an outstanding toll online, they must log in to the HKeToll website or mobile app.   The department urged citizens to stay alert when receiving unidentified messages and refrain from visiting suspicious websites or disclosing personal data. Xia Baolong welcomes delegation

Led by Director of the Chief Executive’s Office Carol Yip, a delegation of politically appointed officials for national studies and duty visits began a study programme in Beijing yesterday.
