1 vaccination case reported

The Department of Health said as at 4pm today, in the past 24 hours it received one report from the Hospital Authority regarding a case admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) with a suspected serious adverse event following COVID-19 vaccination.   The case involves a 51-year-old man who has history of diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidaemia.   The patient had experienced shortness of breath since March 6 with a cough and sputum. He attended the accident and emergency department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital yesterday for treatment.   He was hospitalised with a provisional diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction and was admitted to the ICU last night for further treatment. He is in a critical condition.   The man received a dose of the CoronaVac COVID-19 vaccine at Yuen Wo Road Sports Centre Community Vaccination Centre on March 3.   The department said it immediately contacted the authority to obtain more information for investigation and assessment.   It will pass the case to the Expert Committee on Clinical Events Assessment Following COVID-19 Immunization for causality assessment, and the assessment result will be released.   According to the vaccine's product information, patients with uncontrolled severe chronic diseases should not be given the vaccine.   For patients with acute diseases, acute exacerbation of chronic diseases, severe chronic diseases, atopy and fever, the vaccine should be used with caution. They should delay vaccination until after a doctor's evaluation if necessary.
